Healthy Connections is South Carolina's Medicaid program. It is a medical assistance program that helps pay for some or all medical bills for many people who cannot afford medical care. The program also assists adults over 65 and individuals with a disability.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for South Carolina Medicaid, you must be a resident of the state of South Carolina, a U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income.
You must also be one of the following:
- Pregnant
- Be responsible for a child 18 years of age or younger
- Blind
- Have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability
- Be 65 years of age or older

The following beneficiaries do not have copayment requirements:
- Children under 19 years of age
- Pregnant women
- Institutionalized individuals
- Members of a Federally Recognized Indian Tribe
- Members of the Health Opportunity Account (HOA) program
The following services are not subject to a copayment:
- Medical equipment and supplies provided by DHEC
- Orthodontic services provided by DHEC
- Family planning services
- End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) services
- Infusion Center services
- Emergency services in the hospital emergency room
- Hospice benefits
- Waiver services
